Default lumpy 4.9 cams

so i know all the websites say the 4.9 cams are 'not for computer controlled vehicles' but why not? they also say the headers they sell will only fit up to 1989 but they seem to fit my 92 just fine with minor mods to the gasket and alternator bracket. has anyone ever tried stuffing an agressive cam into a computer controlled 300-6?

If "lumpy" mean's more than 4 degree's advance.

I'm not to familiar with cams because I have a EFI so I haven't put much effort/time into researching the cams/options. I wonder if a 4barrel carb w/ intake, headers, cam and a timing advance would do enough?

Well...while you're deciding how much of a problematic, less reliable, pain in the *** you want to make your truck, why not do an ignition system upgrade w/ timing bump while it's still EFI?

Increased performance & better MPG (If you keep your foot out of it/ that's the hard part).

4-6 degrees further advance to base time will really wake that puppy up, w/ minimal expense.

See link: http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/show...ht=timing+bump

Here's some more info about it: https://www.f150forum.com/f10/timing...ap-info-44854/

I have the racing wires, copper core plugs, re-gapped, MSD coil and timing bumped up from 11 to about sixteen. I also blinded off the EGR valve, removed the catalayic converters, stupid K&N drop in filter, 4.10's in the rear.... She's not sleepy but maybe I'll just save my pennies and get a V8 swap. thing is, i like my mpg's.

i already upgraded all the timing components with all taylor and MSD, plus an accel TFI-IV coil (always thoght accel was kind of junky but it's the best stock replacement coil going) and was relatively unimpressed. it does idle much smoother though. i just wanted to know what happens when you install an agressive cam will it cook the motor (blasphamy! it's a ford 4.9 after all) or will it just be numb untill you get in the upper RPM range?

ALSO thanks for the link. made me laugh though because i've been running no EGR with a 160 degree thermostat for a couple years now. oops. but definately gives you some things to consider.
