Default Loose speedometer needle?

Hello,

The speedometer needle on my 1994 f150 5.0 4x4 125k miles is behaving strange.

my odometer works and speedometer work per say BUT the needle is twitchy when I am at 50mph.

I searched and ive read threads about odometer or speedo not working and it being the pcm but in my case they actually work.

Is this something just as simple as the needle being ‘loose’?

First guess would be that the the problem is with the sending unit in the rear differential. I doubt if the problem would be a loose needle if it only acts up at or around 50 MPH.

I replace the sensor on top of the rear differential because of a code I got. Is that the same thing?

Codes do NOT mean to replace parts. I hope you kept the original since there's probably nothing wrong with it, and it's higher-quality than most replacements (even Ford/MC). The PCM in these trucks has nothing to do with the speedo. No, the needle isn't loose. Read this page:

Thanks Steve, bookmarked the link for a more critical read. Is a chipped tone ring a possible cause of speedometer cable movement?

Grammar mistake, not cable but erratic 2-3 mph differences at speeds above 50mph. Chipped tone ring?

after replacing the vss and about 200 miles later i haven't had a hard shift problem. Nor code 452.

Unplug the ABS Computer behind the glove box on the right side, (Either a black metal box or black plastic box) and see if it improves.

I will try this, also inspected wiring of the connector that plugs into the vss and the green wire had a cut that went deep and i could see the copper.
