Default From long bed to style/step side?

My '89 is a longbed currently. One of my friends was talking about scrapping his '88 stepside. He said I could buy the bed from him pretty cheaply. Is this a conversion that I can do easily? Do the longbeds have longer frames? or anything else I have to deal with?

Yes sir the frame is longer. It may be easier to make your bed longer than to make your frame shorter though.

I'm thinking it may be cheaper to just sell my truck and buy a stepside, the more I look into it. It's not a big deal. I just needed the truck to pull my trailer, but now that I've been driving it I really think the stepside is more my deal.

Well I posted earlier about my wanting a Flareside myself, I really prefer the look of the Flareside!! Finding a "nice" Flareside 4X4, and at a reasonable price is a project in itself, so good luck with that!!!
However I think it would be fun to try to make a long bed Flareside, I've never seen one before!

If you decide to sell your truck please PM me and let me know what you would want for it.

I don't even care if it's 4x4. Truth be told, I'd be just as happy with a 2WD flareside.

I figured as much.

I'm gonna get this F-150 back up and running and just drive it as is. Maybe next year, I'll just buy a stepside truck.

I have seen longbed stepsides but only on older trucks. The kind with the old style bed box with the wood floor and bolt on fenders. I think the newer stepside style is fiberglass bed sides and fenders as one piece.

These old trucks are so cheap any more it would't be worth doing. Just getting your truck painted so the cab and bed would match would probably run more that what it would be to have a 2nd truck. Could you buy the whole truck from your friend and put your motor and trans in it?
