Default Locks and keys and starty things...

Hi all,
I got a '95 xlt. I have some question about these crappy door locks and the ignition cylinder. First, both doors stopped unlocking with the key. I took apart the door and seems that a little plastic clip reached it's "warranty date" and dropped off the back of the lock cylinder. I went to the local parts store and they had a doorman kit which turns out have the "all metal" '99+ part but not the silly plastic clip to fix mine.

Now, I feel like replacing the door lock cylinders. First question: Are the cylinders pretty universal? I see on flea-bay several ford door lock cylinders that look much better made. There are also aftermarkets available, any opinion on their quality?

Next: I also notice the ignition switch is "sloppy". It works fine, but it doesn't engage each position like it should, the key lock removal lever is pretty optional, it will ding like the key is in there but isn't fixed by a good jiggle, etc. I've read mixed fixes for this problem description. There's something about a rod and a plastic clip that breaks, and some say a new ignition cylinder. What do you guys think?

So I guess my question is; with every place the keys goes basically being broken, what do you recommend I should do? I'd really like to be able to have 1 key for everything and keep the doors matching the ignition if possible.

thanks in advance all...

Google ford door locks not working. The little motor is taken apart and a part is rapped with tin foil and put back together and works for ever like that. There is a hole by your switch you can put a nail in after you turn the key on the on position and the cylinder comes right out on most older trucks.

The problem is not the power locks. Both the google search terms you recommended and your description of a motor suggests problems with the power locks. The power locks work fine. It's the keys I'm having problems with.

Is this the plastic part you're talking about? You can re-key the door locks to match your ignition key but I don't know prices. You can always search for sets with Google or whatever. I saw one set on amazon but out of stock. About to check LMCtruck

I recently purchased a '94 which required having the locks re-keyed, as the previous owner had lost the keys. The local locksmith charged me $25 including two keys, seemed like a fair deal. NAPA had an aftermarket set for $59, but I always prefer to keep OEM when possible.

I scrounged a couple of those little plastic clips on my last trip to the local Pic n Pull - cost - $0. If you have one in your area it's a great source for stuff like this.
