ok i got a 87 I6 seems like i keep running in to problems lately last week my front tank rusted thew and i havnt replaced it yet so for a week i was only using the rear tank and then on my way back from the city couple miles from my house the truck startd to bog down every time i got on the gas so i got off the highway and after a block it just actd like it was starving for fuel and cut out well i got the truck home by pushing it with my other truck and all i did was switch the switch for the tanks to my front tanks and the truck started and i kno my front tank is bone dry i syphoned the gas out and wht was left leakd out cuz its rusted out and i kno my rear tank had ovr half full cuz i had just filld it, sorry for the long post if any1 can help me figure this out thank you

i heard when the switches go bad the tanks cross fill

They cross fill when the valves in the fuel pumps go out. But that still doesn't make sense as to why the front tank would work, if there really is no gas in it due to the hole. Could you maybe have flipped the switch to the front tanks when driving and not have noticed?

i never had the cross fill problem b4 and no i didnt hit the switch i was goin smoothly down the highway lol on my cell phone lol so my other hand was on the wheel and it started to bog down like it was strugling to get gas

It sounds like you have crossfilling, which is a little odd for your year truck. I have heard of others recently though. '87-'89 trucks are different than the '91-'96 trucks. '91-'96 have the little valve in each tank that prevents crossfilling. '87-'89 trucks have the dual function reservoir which has the valve in it. It's on the frame rail with the junction that has the lines from both tanks in and the lines out to the engine.

yea it go the junction box thing for the tanks and yea i drove the truck around the block to day just to see how it was driving and yea i noticed that my front tank was leaking gas wich it was bone dry couple days ago so i gess i do i got a cross fill problem any thing i can do that will permitly fix that proble cuz im about to go pull a tank from the junkyard and strap it to the truck and just run a new pump and trash the other tanks
