Yea if you keep your fuel filter changed, throttle body, and intake clean with intake cleaner, (i use that sea foam spray cause it wont dry out seals like that other stuff does) along with not using too thick of an oil, then it helps get better gas mileage. i started using royal purple 10w30 and i noticed a little better gas mileage.

They do require maintenance. Toss a stock one back in & see what you think!

I change the oil regularly, with full synthetic and a Motorcraft oil filter. I try not to step into the gas too much, that helps with the fuel mileage, too. In the winter, I get a little less than 13mpg due to them running 10% ethanol to help with emissions.

Last summer, I got 18.79mpg on a 150 mile drive by keeping the speed under 65mph and not accelerating harshly from traffic signals, etc.

Going up the through the gears is what eats the gas. Of course, stops are counterproductive. My 302 gets 23 mpg @ 65. 19mpg @ 80mph
Have you bumped your timing yet? I run 16 BTDC, but anything more advanced than 10 BTDC will improve MPG. Over 16 BTDC is not worth it on a stock engine. It doesn't require great compression, just reasonably balanced. No need to increase Octane either.

No, I have not. I am not sure I know what to do, or if I should f#ck with it, or not.

Ya, you should. Here's a link for upgradeing you ignition, bumping your timing, & stretching your plug gaps. You don't need to upgrade to just bump your timing. Just a healthy Ignition system. The upgrade also increases performance & mpg, allowing for larger spark kernel exposure/ more complete ignition, but 1/2 the total benefits is in the timing bump by itself. let me know if you have any questions. It's kinda my specialty. http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/show...ht=timing+bump

i got a K&N FIPK it on my 95 302 and i did notice a increase in my "off the line" pulls and over "throttle response", afterwords i added under drive pulleys, eliminated the clutch fan and added elec fans, and hacked my muffler off and noticed a bit more. im happy with it.

If I do a timing bump should I side gap the spark plugs or just extend the gap.

The bump only requires a healthy ignition system. Stretching & sidegap require an ign. sys. upgrade. After upgrading, I would start by gradually increasing your gap, starting at .052. Sidegapped plugs should be .002 less than what your stretched plugs maxed out at w/o missing. You keep stretching till you detect a miss, then reduce gap by .002. Here's the sidegap link, but I'd stretch first. http://www.performanceunlimited.com/...degapping.html
