Angry Just need to vent...

So. I got my truck in October, 2010. It's now Feb, 2011. I've been waiting on my truck to get my license. Woops, where's my trucks? In a family friends son's garage, that they've been doing the ball joints for five weeks. Guess who knows how to do it himself? Ah yes, me... Guess who doesn't have the tools, but has plenty of friends who do? Me, yet again. I'm a god damn 16 year old. The truck was supposed to be done in December. I can't get a job without transportation. I can't get anywhere without my license. I can't get my license without my truck because my insurance is too expensive. I can't pay for the insurance without a job, can't a job without the truck, the cycle repeats. I'm pretty damn tired of being taken advantage of with this . Not only that, but he was supposed to check my driver side cab mount, and find a fan shroud for me. I was told he could one from a yard that had an abundance for like 5-10 bucks, and then I was told it would be 120... and to boot, the right hinge on my tailgate was suppose to get welded so it wouldn't drop off when I would try to put it back up. That hasn't happened either. Pretty much the ONLY thing on my truck that's been completed in the time frame expected, is I got a new steering column put in the truck. And now that I got this off my chest, I'ma go feel physically sick because I'm still so pissed over it. Thanks for reading, anyone who does.

Sounds like your "friends" have better things to do than work for free. You made a bad decision to take it to them I guess. Either suck it up and own it or find a way to get there.

How far away are you from them? Why not ask one of your friends to take you over there and help you wrench on it and get the ball joints in. Then have someone with a license drive it home for you. If the tail gate isn't fixed, take it off and throw it in the bed and worry about fixing it after you get a job.
Barter. Offer your friends help with a project they have going on in turn for helping you. Welcome to the real world. Sometimes you have to get creative and find ways to make things happen.
I can understand where you're coming from with your problems. Been in similar situations myself. Work them to your advantage, and make a mental note of those who offer help, and those who have screwed you over. Good Luck.

Mother's boyfriends son in law, alcoholic, works less than 20 hours a week. The reality is he's lazy and too busy drinking to think about much else than himself. It wasn't my idea to take it, it was my moms boyfriend's idea. And not exactly free work, I payed in firewood I cut.

A good hour or so. Not exactly far, but where I live jobs are decently hard to come by, reasonably, and fuel efficient cars are really abundant. I've suggested about taking someone to finish up the ball joints and then bring it home after that, and keep it around instead of taking it anywhere outside of local for any work I don't have the tools for. Do have a couple friends willing to help who owe me favors, and some people who'd probably help given I help out around their farms or shops. Thanks, I feel like I'm gonna need it at this rate.

Dude! Play the "Mom card". Your only 16. It may be your last chance to do it w/out looking like you have lace on your underwear.

I've cut my share of firewood. It's about as honest a day's work as there is. It's time for them to pay up or as others have mentioned, start making a plan to deal w/ it yourself & let it be known that's what your doing. That's called playing the "your boyfriend's son in law & possibly your boyfriend is an ***hole" card.

The "mom card" may be quicker but the other card is much more of a statement of who you are & what they're not. Person's of their word.

Also, if they see you making concrete plans, they may get off their ***. A side bar regarding all this, is it's intentionally a dragging of feet for some reason?

My 2 cent's/ keep the change. (If you lived w/ in 50 miles of me, I'd come by w/ tools & knock that out w/ you, just to see the look on their faces)

It's all good. Everyone goes through this angst at your age. Unfortunately theres no short cut around it. When I was your age I wanted my license and a car too and was in the same boat. I walked, bummed rides, and took the bus to get to work at burger king. Then I SAVED all my money to get my license, insurance and car. Theres a way for you to get to work besides driving, it's just not what you want to do right now. It sucks, I know. But when you DO finnaly get everything in order it will make the reward that much more satisfying! YOU CAN DO IT! If you want that licence and truck bad enough youll get it!!

YOU CAN DO IT!
