Default Intermittent no start

Hey Guys,

Things replace: iac, ign mod, coil, both pumps,

This all started 8 months ago with waht seemed like vapor lock, run it for a while, shut it down, then no start. Let it sit for a while and it would start. It did it once then nothing for a month and a half when it did it again. Another month and a half gones by it does it again. a month goes by and again. now i'm down to almost every day. Do I got the time bomb or what. any help or clues would be great.

thanks

Fuel pumps are pumping fine, 35 psi at rail. I had it running on and off all day yesterday after cleaning all the ground wires I could find, thought I had it until it gave up. Checked all the wiring going to the pcm, all looks fine. Its not getting spark out of the coil.

Has anyone had this problem that ended up being the hall effect in the distributor?

Hall effects do go bad. With your problem beings so intermittent, testing is about useless. Swap with a buddy if possible, otherwise give it a try.

Default Did you try?

Try the pick up coil in the distributor. Its about a $25.00 part and it will cause your concern you will have to pull the ditributor and its at the base. you can check it when you pull it out. when this part gets hot it somtimes shorts out and since you shut the engine off and it gets a little warmer than running it might just be enough to short it out. the pick up coil tells the computer when to spark.

Well right now I've swapped the dist with a known good one and it's starting but being an intermittent problem I don't know if it's fixed yet. I'll keep you posted, thanks
