Default Intake air temp sensor?

My 95 f150 302 that I just bought has a intake air temp sensor right under the fuel rail on the drivers side. It is unplugged and I cannot find the cable that goes to it. My question is, does it have to be plugged up. I'm assuming it does but just wondering if maybe not all these trucks used them because I cannot find the cable. Also my erg valve sensor is reading 3500 ohms and my manual says it should be 5000 ohms with no vacuum. Would this cause my truck to be sluggish at low rims.
