Is the truck completely stock? Some things you can do are: high output ignition coil, timing bump, exhaust, 8mm superconductor plug wires, and d-cap with brass ends. Here are some things that do no good for our trucks. Chips, cold air intakes, throttle body spacers, and platinum plugs.

Exhaust and a timing bump as mentioned above would be my first things. How is expensive is non expensive? Exhaust can be expensive. Big gains will not be made until you spend some money.
