Default Inconsistant LS Labeling

95 4.9 5 speed 4x4 xl. The label inside the door when decoded says my truck has limited slip.

I checked the tag on the rear axel, and the label does not have an "L" in it, which I read is how to determine if its LS.

How long have you had the truck? Maybe somebody swapped rear ends. It's easy enough to test to see if you have limited slip.

I thought of that, but then wondered why in the world someone would do that.

To test whether you have a limited slip or an open differential. Raise one rear tire off the ground and put the transmission in neutral. If you can turn the raised tire you have an open differential. If you can't turn the tire you have limited slip.

A second method raise both rear tires off the ground, a full size floor jack under the pumpkin works well. Turn one tire, if the other tire turns the same direction you have limited slip, if the other tire turns the opposite direction you have an open differential.

Mine has two numbers and a letter. My axle code is 19N. When I Jack mine up one wheel goes toward one goes backward indicating an open rear.
