Default Im new to this.

I must bought my first project truck ever. Its a 96 f-150. It has the L6 but I want to swap for a 5.0. How hard of a motor swap is that?

Major. Gotta change just about everything. Other than that, piece of cake.
Enjoy the 4.9 for what it is (torque monster) and leave it alone.

I have a 5.0 in my 95.

I doubt you will gain enough performance-wise to justify all the work involved.

IMHO, the 5.0 is just not a big enough bang for the buck.

Yep, I agree too! My 6 is getting me nearly 20 mpg and runs like a top! That's why I bought this particular truck because I know the 6 will last nearly forever.

You will need v8 motormount, supports,Left and right . The right side will unbolt From the Frame and Saddle . The left Drivers side will need a Sawsall to cut and remove some rivets- bolts from a donar. You can get a v8 stock Exhaust 2into 1,or a cheep header set up. You will need the new AN Bell Connector- Blue. Then probably Lokar throttle cable, or fabricate one. This is a start as I am trying to put a 289 in My 4.9 comparment now.

I have the 5.0 and I hate the lack of torque, stick with the I6 or go bigger than the 5.0.

The 4.9 Heads seem to be going for 300 dollars. I needed one, then there was a small scratch from top to bottom in the no.1 Cylinder. The Pleniums were a pain to remove and exhaust manifolds . There has got to be a better Header and intake sys. The block had 3 bolt in freeze plugs. Look to me like the inline six head is under extreme conditions. Mine had two cracks 1 inch long, but the Head Gasket was brittle from age.
