Default Ignition switch problem

I've got an issue with my 96. The other day I went to start it and the switch went limp. No springback when I tried to start. Lights on, etc. but no start. Then when i tried to shut down, nothing. Stuck in on position. Key turns and comes out.

I took out the switch and the key turns with no resistance or springback. I ordered a new switch and replaced it today. Seemed to work fine and started up. Then when I tried to turn off the truck it would not stop running. I pulled a battery cable and she still ran so I pulled the coil wire and that stopped her but the lights and stuff were still on.

So, the original switch was bad, but now what? Has anybody had this experience. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be the rod that attaches the lock cylinder and ignition switch. You could have tweaked it just enough to work a little when you changed the switch.

You stop the engine in this scenario by opening the fuse box under the hood (driver's side next to the air filter box) and pulling the big fuses. There's a 20 amp (that controls the fuel pump I think) that will do it, but I had to pull two 50 amp fuses to get all the other electrical stuff to go off.. except the blower motor. You have to pull a fuse in the cabin fuse box to get it to quit.
