Not to insult your mechanical aptitude, but you do know what a fusible link looks like? It doesn't look like a wire with a fuse in it. It looks like a wire. Usually with thicker than you would expect insulation and very flexible. They are typically short (3 to 6 inches) and frequently have a large plastic blob by one connector. You have to replace the wire if the fusible portion is damaged. You can check your wires end to end with an ohmmeter if in doubt. Make sure you replace it with the proper sized fusible link.
