Trust me, I plan to check everything. I am just trying to give them as much information as possible to help me with my problem.

I have a 1987 F150 and am thinking about changing the ignition switch, the little metal bar and the key cylinder.... do I need to lower the column to get at the switch? Do I need to remove the steering wheel to get at the metal bar and the cylinder?

I was working w/ someone on another Forum w/ the same problem. While tracing the wire that actuates the solenoid back to the ignition switch, for a continuity brake in the wire, he found an alarm module installed by a previous owner that was designed to either remote start or disable starting. It had a blown internal fuse. He removed the module and attached the wires directly. No more problems. If you find a small plastic box that say something like "Prolock"..........!

Chilton covers this quite well. You don't need to remove the wheel unless you don't have a key, and you don't have to do any major demolition unless you have a tilt-wheel.

I indeed have a key... but I also have tilt steering.... it looks like I need to drop the steering column to get at the switch... not sure about the cyclinder or the metal bar....
