OK, I did try to start the truck with it in nuetral and it still would not turn over.
Question: Don't the nuetral switch at the bottom of the column work other things or give power to things like dash lights, warning lights, ect.?

He did bypass the neutral safety switch, which is why I am trying to find out why it will not start with the key switch. The way he has it wired up the truck will start with the automatic trans in gear.
All my solenoids have check out to be OK. The only other thing I can think it could be is the rod in the column.

The switch you mentioned above is not the neutral safety switch, it is the ignition switch. The neutral safety switch is on the transmission, hope this clears up some confusion. Nice PICS anyway.

the ignition switch closes the circuit to turn on the electrical system, the nuetral saftey switch just alows it to start if im not mistaken. And most of the lights and stuff are routed from the fuse box to the headlight switch to the wiring harness if im not mistaken again.

Booger, have you ever thought of changing your name? . You are correct with your description of the systems but don't forget some of the control sides of circuits get activated thru the run, start, and accy. function of the ign switch. Otherwise they could be on at all times, like the headlights for example.

In the steering column there is a rod that is pushed down the column when the key is turned to the start the truck, my question is what is the rod being pushed into?

Very common mistake, the ignition key goes into the cylinder which thru a small gear and rack system pushes the rod you mentioned, which inserts into the ignition switch. Accy,Park,Off, Run, Start. The neutral safety switch is on the trans.

Alright, by pure mistake today, I was holding on to the shifter on the column (auto tranny) and the truck started. I turned it off again and tried to start it again without holding the shifter with no luck, so I held up on the shifter again and it started right up several times. So is my problem in the column or maybe in the linkage from the column to the tranny?

check the neutral safety switch first, don't want to be an a** but these people know what they are talking about. You asked for their help they are giving it to you, try what they say. Safety switches are cheep and probably your problem.
