Default Idle Questions

I know i am wanting to replace the idle air control Valve IAC because i have cleaned it with carb cleaner and everything, and it still has issues. but i dont want ot, if it isnt the problem. I have a code reader being shipped to me as of right now so i dont miscalculate the bliinks. and to make it easier and faster.

is there a way to set the idle? in gear its at 500-600 and when in park about 700. is this normal? and as i have said in a different thread, the rpms go so far down it dies all the time. so i was wondering if there was a way to set the idle on the EFI as there is on the carburetors? i had an 84 firebird and i just threaded in a screw and it raised it or reverse to lower it. is this a possibilty on EFI? im scared im going to kill it in the middle of an intersection again. so this is more just a HOW TO SET THE IDLE question until my scanner gets here

There is a throttle adjust screw set at the factory, but all tech bulletins I've read say never adjust it as it throws off the TPS. Wait for the Error code reader or do the scans manually. There is a method I've explained in another Idle thread recently. I'll see if I can find it & cut & paste.

Start by warming the engine to norm. op. temp. Then shut off the engine & disconnect the battery for 5+ minutes (not much more, you want it to pretty much remain at norm.op.temp.). Then reconnect the battery, restart. With someone w/ their foot on the accellerator, disconnect the IAC. The idle will falter & try to stall (If it dosen't, your IAC is bad). The person on the accelerator should catch the idle & maintain it at 675(+-)rpm. It will fight for 30-60 seconds but will settle in after that. Maintain for a minimum of 2 minutes. Then shut it off, reconnect the IAC & after 1 minute, restart. You should be looking at 675 rpm(+-). If you have 675rpm(+-), put in gear w/ foot on brake, and let idle for 2 minutes, then shut off for 1 minute. Re-rangeing the IAC is many times required after base timing is advances more than 2 degrees at a time, to lower Idle. This assumes you have no Vac system leaks, a solid ignition system & no active error codes. A Base timing below 10 BTDC could also cause your problem. In fact, just bumping your Base time 1 or 2 degrees would probably do it.

Before i clean up all the carbon build up from my intake. i used to adjust my idle with the adjusting screw . i never had any problems with TPS. before i clean my intake RPM were about 800 after i clean it and start first time RPM jump to 2500 so i had to reajust it and never had any problems whit TPS. Do u have any carbon build up in ur intake.

You're not going to get an IAC code anyways, there is no such code.
