In 1980 Ford advertised 20 highway mpg for the 300 i6... And that was the carb model. It also helps having a stick shift lol. And the ford i6 is the best out of any company no other i6 compares

My brother had the I6 and all it was is a money pit. It only had 145000 miles and we had too replace it. My 302 that I have has 186000 miles on it know and I drive the **** out of it and I haven't had any problems with it at all.

like you guys have said, there isnt much difference hp wise, but maybe he prefers the sound of a v8 like I do, I have nothing against the i6 in fact I am thinking about getting one because of all the positive stuff I have heard about them, but imo v8's have a better sound. I especially like the way my 302 sounds right now

You may be the only person in the world to have ever said such a thing about this motor.... lol

The 300 is without a doubt a bullet proof motor...there's no question but really its your truck so if you want to swap go for it.

If not, save some money, rebuild the 300 with forged pistons, aftermarket everything, etc. throw on a turbo/super charger and tinker with it till you have something custom that you really like...and that a 302, 351, whatever is never gona touch.

You clearly have never heard a straight piped 300 6. It sounds much better than a v8 could. v8's are too loud straight piped. But a 300 6 doesn't need a muffler. Look it up on YouTube or something

I would be pointing my finger at the mechanic not the motor. The 4.9 is tried and true. An as far as im concerned the 5.0 doesn't belong in a truck, it belongs in a mustang or something..

have you seen or heard the exhaust on my truck?, and yes I have heard the i6's straight piped and I like it, but I personally prefer the sound of a v8.

Well I remember Sean saying something about the 302 had the designation as the 5.0 so the 300 had to be given the designation as the 4.9...

as for the sound ehhh i wish the 300 was a little more deep/rumblier. but who gives a damn if you have it turboed, just listen to it whistle

I have heard that the 302 was actually a 4.9 v8, but they called it the 5.0 so that people wouldnt confuse the two motors...interesting
