How do you know what model to get?
Hey there, Im new here and made my intro topic haha I've been shopping around for an F-150 and I can't really decide on what motor, LWB, or if I should get a 4x4.
Im the kind of guy that likes to get personal with his vehicles. I'd wanna get a drop in K&N filter, get new headers and a better sound from the exhaust and I wouldn't mind adding a tuner on the truck if it would improve power and efficiency.
What kind of potential does a 300 Inline 6 motor have? Can it tow a trailer and some extra?
How difficult is it to drive these beast in the winter? should i looking into a 4x4?
Any tips on what to look for when buying a 9 gen truck?

I'd let the options and wheelbase depend on how you plan to use the truck.
The 300 is an excellent motor that will outlast the 5.0 or 5.8, but it won't sound like a v8 no matter how much exhaust work you do. The 5.0 is probably your best bet to mod a little bit, and if that's your plan, go for the MAF motor in the 96. (I might be partial to the 5.0)
Mine is a 2wd and I've never had issues with Missouri winters. I usually put 200-300 pounds of sand bags in the rear, but don't even run snow tires.
Optimal things to look for?
One owner, complete service record, low miles, light or no rust underneath, no noises in the motor, everything works, etc. Will you find all of those things for a decent price? May need to take some trade-offs.

I love the 5.8 V8 but i hear you really can't mod the motor because it uses a MAP sensor. Which is set to a strict fuel ratio? I've read that 5.0s from 94 to 96 have MAF. Are they worth modding for extra power?
Im thinking I should stick to a 300. Can they tow a good amount? Is there anything I can do to free up power? Does the '96 year have MAF?

That's more like it - just find out true mileage and make sure that everything works (if you're paying a premium for the Eddie Bauer package, it should all be functional).
And anytime you buy a used truck with a plastic bedliner, look underneath the bedliner!

I like the 2nd bettar.... Get rid of that auto trans and put in a real trans (manual) and it would be perfect! I would go with some all terrain tires, like BFG All-Terrain T/A KOs. I have a 90 w/ a 5.0 in it. Added a K&N High Flow air intake, MSD cap n rotor, MSD 48,000V coil, Grenatalli wires, and E3 plugs. The newer model like the one you are looking at should have more customizing options.
