Default High Flow Fuel Pump

Have a 331 Stroker. I need more fuel delivery to my engine. From everything I've read I need a high flow fuel pump. I have eliminated the front gas tank for exhaust work. Just have one tank. The fuel pump is internally with the fuel pump. My question is what do I need to to to update this fuel system. Do I need an inline fuel pump? Any suggestions or ideas

get a high flow pump and swap it with the in tank pump...they work better in the tank...they run cooler that way and live longer...

in a alot of my build I actually switch to teh in tank pump and run a bypass regulator...I prefer them over the inline or mechanical pumps...

Any specific ones in mind Doc? I'm in the process of learning how to tune my EEC and kinda focused on one thing....

So your saying get a high flow pump and swap it with the pump that's in the tank?

there will be many after market pumps all based on the same design as stock...even teh inline pumps look like the stock units...

yes...I am saying pull the tank and take the stock pump out and replace with a high flow unit...

I have even taken the inline pump and put it in the tank...I prefer them there

What year is the truck?

I thought you just use larger injectors. The fuel pump should be able to handle a 331, right?

not if its built...injectors will help with the midrange fuel but at WOT throttle the pump will fall short on the big end...

Isn't it the same fuel pump for the 5.8? I'll still take your word over mine on this aspect of truck building.

look at it this way, you are better safe than sorry. If you run lean and detonate you can kiss your engine goodbye.

I would run a high flow pump AND fuel injectors, especially if you are running a decent amount of hp (im assuming you'll make over 300WHP).

call walbro and see what high flow pumps are available. I think you will need at least 255lph for that set up. It's better to run rich, than to run lean.

yes Sean....it is the same pump for all trucks....there maybe a different pump for the 300-6 but when I just looked it listed teh same pump for the 300-6, 5.0. 5.8...

what you need to do is get into the Jegs or Summit catalog and look for a pump for a Mustang...same pump style...

then just adapt it to your truck...simple deal

ALSO...when you change to a high flow pump you should also get an adjustable regulator...the factory unit is set for the factory pump...you add a high flow pump and the regulator will be off...

it will let more fuel to the injectors and it can run overly rich...so you need to set teh pressure on the adjustable regulator...

you can also adjust the fuel pattern a little by going no more than 5psi in either direction...

I could be wrong but, the stock pump is 95gph, summit sells a 155gph pump for around $90.... That should be enough...
