Default Help...what's this?

I need help identifying a couple things.

Is this suppose to be connected to something? It was like this when I bought it, not sure what it's for.

Second, it looks like whatever this part is its suppose to have some sort of cap. Im going to have to get a new one I suppose, just not sure what it is I actually need to get. I really don't think I could have just knocked it off so it must have been missing and I just noticed it as I'm reassembling everything.

Thanks! On a side note, one of the bolts that holds the distributor cap to the distributor sheared off while I was trying to remove it. Any suggestions for trying to get it out of there? I tried making a slot in the top of it with a dremel so I could use a flat head on it but it just sheared more of it off. Thanks again!

First pic is your fresh air door, is diverts the air from outside and in the can when you have it selected on VENT and MAX A/C

The second pic is your vacuum solenoid rack, it controls various systems like the EGR and the Diverter Valve

Take a pic of your distributor to get a better assessment of what you need to do.

Ok I'll get a picture of it. I don't have AC, is that why there is nothing connected to that one connector? On that second one, can I replace just that one part then? Thanks!

You don't necessarily need to have a/c for it, but it is a potential vacuum leak and should be repaired to prevent any rough idling condition and poor engine performance.

And as for your solenoid, it doesn't seem to be damaged, judt looks like a protective cap over it. You should be fine but if you want you can pull a solenoid from the junlyard or just that little cap.

To fix that I would try to either try and put some vice grips and twist it out or you can drill it out in small increments and have the hole re-tapped for new threads.

The thing is I don't see anything not plugged in to plug into that connector. Is there a cable that's suppose to plug in there? If so where does it go so I can see if the other end is there. If I don't cap that solenoid won't that spring fly out or isn't the cap suppose to put pressure on that spring? Also, I think I remember there was some sort of seal or something in there when I first saw it like that but it got wet and kinda fell apart when I was degreasing stuff.

Ohh It was the connector you were pointing at, I thought it was the vacuum hose lol. I'm not sure what that connector goes to but I can try and look through a few diagrams and see what its used for.

As for the solenoid, yeah I guess you need that cap for the spring, didn't notice that right away. Should be pretty easy to pull one off an old one at the junkyard.
