Help! Transmission Question
I went to the emissions station a week ago, and they told me to back my truck out of the station; w/o testing. Apparently the shift indicator had gone bad. (By the way, this is a 1996 Ford F150 XL 5.0 w/EAOD) So I tore the dash apart (what a trip!), and replaced the indicator. I spent several minutes turning the small wheel, to get the red arrow into a "P" position. I shifted through the gears, and noticed there were times, for example, I would start from "P", and have to pull the level into "D", tap the shifter up lightly, to get "R". It's been suggested that the transmission cable needs to be adjusted.
After reading the total of about 7 sentences in the Haynes manual (worthless), and watching a short video on-line, I have a general idea of how to make the adjustment.
I need input from you professionals, and hands-on people as to how to do this?
