Default Help-Transmission problem

I have a 1990 F-150 with an 4.9l, automatic trans 2wd that I owned for about 45000 miles. It developed a leak at the torque converter cover. I brought it in, they replaced all external seals on the trans and the rear main and oil pan gasket. The mechanic said the trans leak was coming from the torque converter seal. I drove it to work the next day and the seal came out of the transmission about a block from work and dumped just about all of the fluid out onto the ground. The shop had it towed to their shop and pulled the trans out again. He said the seal was just riding on the converter and replaced it with a different type. He said he's never seen anything like that happen before. I picked it up 2 days ago and drove it to work and back home yesterday. When I got home, there was fluid dripping from the torque converter housing again. i have the exact same leak I did when I brought it in the very first time. I called the shop, but they were closed already so I need to get ahold of them today. Any ideas as to what's going on with this seal and why it keeps leaking?

Thanks,
Kevin C

might have them look at the torque converter where it slides into trans...make sure it aint cracked or wore down...or even the pump where the seal sits...does this shop normally do good work??

Seems to me if they are a reputable transmission repair shop, they should be able to figure out the problem. Maybe you should think about taking the truck to another shop.

I've seen transmission front seals pop out before. I've been told it was from the fluid overpressurizing due to a blockage.

They've done good work for me in the past and came recommended by several other people as well. I'm dropping it off again and they are going to take another swing at it. They are saying possibly a bad converter or pump. Would those make sense?

could be bad converter or pump...or even a bad seal......sean is right too...i would have them check your transmission vent tubes...blow them out nice and good .....also when they put it together have them check the dipstick and see if its blowing out alot of air with the dipstick out
