Default Help! Coolant Leak

The radiator core got an internal leak a few years back (screwed up the trans) and so ran a trans cooler to get around getting another radiator after having the trans rebuilt.

Well recently I have noticed it was leaking coolant from the fittings that the trans lines connect to the radiator. The fittings seem tight, but still leak slowly. Are there any plugs of any kind to just get rid of them or anything? What could I do?

Yeah, just get an external cooler mounted up for the transmission, then you can plug them radiator cooler holes with whatever fits (not sure of thread sizes).

I'd like to avoid that. Surely even trying some pipe dope on the threads is worth a shot.

I already have the external cooler. There are some plugs in the holes but they are leaking. Thinking of using some pipe dope on the threads. Or in worst case scenario try to weld a plate over the holes.

Once the rad starts leaking internally its already shot, coolant is going where its not supposed to and eventually will start leaking elsewhere. I have never had good luck trying to fix leaking trans fittings without either them breaking as they came out or would simply leak again because its either corroded or cracked.

good god....
he has already removed the lines from the radiator for the trans cooler and is now runing an external cooler
now the radiator is leaking at the plugs he put in where the trans lines used to go...
take the plugs out, put some thread tape on them ad put them back in and move on.

Yeah, they pretty much is what he said. He unhooked the trans cooler lines and hooked to an external/independent cooler. Now its leaking from the caps he put on the old fittings.

Pretty sure that's what he meant when he said "pipe dope", I could be wrong though.

You are correct. I am going to attempt that and if it doesnt work I will probably just cut off the nipples for the trans lines and weld some caps over it. Radiator works fine for me. No need to blow money on a new one if the leak is fixable. So gonna try to save the money!
