Stupid me..... I didn't think the IM controlled accessory power too. I figured when the key turned back it closed a different circuit....nope. I figured it out. Thanks for the help. I just needed to move the switch forward some and it turned the power off....*facepalm*

This is what happens when I think too much...

Default Ignition actuator replacement

Recommend you search the forum there are plenty of posts on the subject. Yes, you will need to pull the steering wheel but you can get a loaner from Advance Auto. Check out the do-it-yourself video posted on you-tube. They will step you right through the repair.

As far as I've heard about "loaner" tools from parts places is you put a deposit which is the cost of the tool, so that if you don't return it they get the money anyway. I used a ball-peen (think I spelled it right) hammer and hit on the back side of the thick part of the "arms" as close as I could to the center of the steering wheel. After a couple firm hits it came off.

I just couldn't figure out how to get the part the steering wheel attaches to off. The part the blinker arm/wiper control attach's to before the first u-joint. (Tilt steering by the way, not sure if there was anything different for my year).

I tried searching the forum. Either I wasn't using quite the right wording, or the search function on the site just doesn't like me. I found one thread that was exactly what I was looking for....except the guy never put a solution or how-to. He just put a link to the homepage of another site he got an answer from, not even to the answer/thread.

There are 3 screws that come from the back of the wheel holding the assembly in then 3 screws on the front. The big trick is to knock out the roll pin holding the 2 halves of the tilt mechanisms together and don't loose the spring. Autozone.com has a help section that shows a good breakout of the assembly.

I think I remember the three from the back, but I didn't think they were holding the pieces together like that...hmmm..

This might be a Monday project (I have Monday off). I'm hoping the rod thing just fell out, this didn't happen until I was messing with the tilt to get more room to screw in a new rear view mirror...

The switch itself is a box bolted to the steering column, but that's not the problem. The rod that connects the switch to the key cylinder fell out or broke.
