Default Headlight switch

I have a 1989 and I am trying to replace the wiper switch cause the intermittent part crapped out but I cannot get the headlight switch **** off, what's the trick? Any help appreciated

It can be a MPITA, under the **** itself, there is a release tang that should let the **** come off. Mine had the tang but was previously glued. There is a small metal push button on the bottom of the headlight switch body. Your gonna have to reach up in there to get it. Push the button in and exercise the push rod and eventually the light switch **** along with the push rod will come out.

Newer, the **** comes off. Older (your 89) there is a button on the switch behind the dash you have to push so you can pull out the **** and shaft.
