You should watch Horse Power TV they have gone into this topic several times, as I recall most of the time they got the best results out of the long tube models. What was nearly as important as the tube length was the inside diameter of the tubing.

long tubes are better if you have a engine that can flow. they will more than likely make more power than shortys. the longer exhaust track before the collector will help get more exhaust gasses out of the head before the back pressure starts restricting flow.

Im dont know much when it comes to headers, but i can tell you this. Your not gonna fit long tubes on you eddie...i have the same thing just an extended cab. Shorties are tough enough and are a tight fit. You would have to do some serious modifications if you go with long tubes.

From what I hear, the long tubes will give you more power but are a tougher fit with exhaust pipe modification required. Most shortys are a bolt in affair usually with no other exhaust mods necessary to make them fit.

Longtubes do not make power. Long tubes make torque! Long tubes are sometimes direct bolt ins and come with or have an optional pipe available for sale.

I myself will only install long tube headers. the result over shorties is usually substantial.
