Default headers and o2 censer

I own a 93 ford xl 4x4 w/a 5.0 motor..
My ? is I would like to put dual exhaust on this truck but the motor has dual to single exhaust system on it..It also only has one o2 censer on it so how will that o2 work w/dual exhaust..What will I need to do to make the system work w/only one o2 on it..

H or X pipe with the sensor mounted there.

+1 to what Sean said…

not only will it solve your 02 sensor issue but it'll promote better exhaust flow by equalizing exhaust pressure. I'd go with a X pipe over an H - infact I've never heard of them but I suspect they do the same thing?

An h pipe is better for low end torque and a bit louder than an x pipe
X-pipes make quiter exhaust and more top end power

Sorry if i'm hijacking the thread, but I had some questions regarding my exhaust and it's somewhat related...

Were there any models that came from the factory with dual exhaust? I have a 96 XL 5.8l i just got and it has true dual exhaust. I was talking to some guy who said that none of these trucks came from the factory with true dual exhaust. It doesn't have an H-pipe, but I think it has O2 sensors on both headers, and maybe even two more further back (upstream of the cats). It looks like it HAD an H-pipe connecting the two exhaust pipes, but it appears that it was cut and welded shut (there are two little "knubs" where you'd expect an H-pipe).

Also, I read that the 96's were supposed to have O2 sensors downstream of the cats, but this isn't the case for this truck.

So I guess my questions are:

1) how many O2 sensors should I have and where should they be?
2) Do i need to get my exhaust reconfigured so that it has an H-pipe, and should I install one of the O2 sensors there? I've heard that an H-pipe would be beneficial anyway, even if I don't put an O2 sensor there.

thanks
