Would love to put headers on my truck too. I was told the engine would have to be removed to put the headers on.

Get shorty headers, they should fit no problem. I bought LT's and the exhaust shop didn't want to re-bend the passenger side runners to go around a motor mount... so I'm still running the stock manifolds (one which is now leaking).

For long tubes maybe, but a good set of shortys should bolt right up.

I know the Summit brand ones are a pretty popular, cheaper option. They are made by PaceSetter.

I have shortys and I have a leak. Driver's side, flange. One bolt was tightened down the other was improperly tightened down. PITA to get to is right beside the frame, above the starter, below the heater. It is now rusted in there will have to be cut and replaces to be properly tightened. Drivers side is fine. Its that pass side that has no room.

I am running shorties. I did not pull the engine to install them, but do be careful for broken bolts. I know to well about the leaking manifolds, my passenger side came off the truck in 3 pieces. The caution on broken bolts is that my rear most driver side bolt brike when removing the manifolds, I got lucky and am using it as a stud until I switch heads then I will go with all new hardware. The shorites I am running I bought cheap on ebay, just need better fastners so they quit backing off. Hope this helps some.

Thanks yall. When I get the money I might consider finding some and putting them on. Maybe when I replace the front springs and shocks.

I am considering doing headers as well. I have thought i wanted long tube as i have heard you get better performance out of them over shorties???? I had the pass side manifold replaced 9 months ago and duals put on then, but now i am thinking i want bigger pipes and a deeper meaner sound.

Which style, long or short, will provide the maximum low end power? Both torque and HP. I want to keep my power band low as I do not rev the engine over 2000RPM

Having put Headers on about every vehicle I have owned..I know it can be a Full Day's job doing it..I have some comming for the F-150 and I will not pull the engine to Install..I will replace the motor mounts at the same time..Just jack up the engine each side and install..I doubt it can be any harder than installing them in a 1965 and 1970 GTO or a 69 Chevelle or even the Challenger SRT..Just plan on a long day and have alternate transport standing by!! Hardest I ever did was a 1970 Challenger R/T and still have NO Leaks today..Be sure to get some good keepers..or saftey wire the bolts..Nowdays there's Stage 8 Header bolts..never back out!!
