Default Headache with Headers

I have a 302/ V8, with 180k miles on the odom in my '96 and it's running great...

Some of you guys say long tube headers are the way to go for more horsepower. Some say shorties, because LT's will not fit well... Then there's the ceramic vs SS, what is better? And then brands... Pricing really isn't an option, I mainly care about results and quality.

I will go with a custom exhaust. Flowmasters are popular but I'd rather go with something different. Anyone have experience with Gibson? Does Bassani still make their side out (front of passenger tire) version?

I live in the city, and have to follow all the emission regulations but I too seek extra HP and all the other noisy benes you non emission folk get to enjoy.

Let's hear some recommendations.

Thanks!

in headers you have

Basic...painted header and they dont winter well....

Ceramic....coated inside and out for thermal resistance and they last longer than basic but still rust...

Stainless....most expensive but worth it for long term use...they dont rust and the only issues are cracking due to extreme heat...

Get long tubes, take to local muffler shop and have exhaust done, get collectors with weld in o2 bungs, makes them street legal, if money no issue, get jet coated headers, if money issue, get headman headers, around 180 at summit. I am planning on putting long tubes on my 92, but I am going to make my own header back exhaust.
