That was fun...
Well Friday morning we picked up a 16ft all steel four horse trailer, as first we thought its gonna be a little heavy. Hooked up, the truck sunk about 2" but it sat about 3" high in the rear normally so it sat fairly level with the trailer there. The way we went was fairly hilly and going up the hills it was loud with the unknown brand of header and straight pipes. Once the horses were in we drove about 10 miles later we decided to put them father back because turning is helpful, we stopped by a closed scale we grossed 1575lbs over the rear axles of the truck and 2596lbs over the axles of the trailer. Not as bad as we thought, at first we were thinking around 5000lbs with the horses. All in all we spent about $400 on fuel, it was an 1988 F150 2WD with the 302, it did good a little under powered for what we needed but it did it with only a little complaining. When we left the tranny was slipping a little, and every now and the the truck would have a miss that would shake the truck like a bat outta hell. 700mi and 30 hours in the truck(we had some rest stops). I have to say Ford, you made one hell of a comfy seat!
