Default fuel regulator

well i had to replace my fuel pumps for a second time, first time at 100,000 and now at 177,000 miles. the first time i didnt replace the regulator and it went within a month. is it standard practice to replace the regulator when replacing the pumps, mines a 90 with the high pressure pumps in each tank.

No. But you should replace your filter when you change your pump(s). I usually try to put a new one on every summer just for good measure. There could be a restriction somewhere that's making your pump work harder than it should.

well i ordered the regulator. guess i answered my own question with the fact that when i changed the first set of pumps with 100,000 miles on them the regulator failed shortly after. besides i found a guy selling them for $32.00 to my door. the same one that sells for $65.00. cheap peace of mind.

For the regulator? You should be able to pick one up for $20 or so at your chain auto parts store down the street.

6 years ago. but so some reason there around the $60.00 mark now. i checked oreillys and autozone. even on ebay there up there. anyway $32.00 for the same one they sell for $60.00 + is good enough for me. funny thing is that the pumps havent gone up much just the regulator.

Maybe your '90 uses a different regulator. For mine, BWD 21704 is the one that comes up. $20.99 at Advance Auto, 25.99 at O'Reilly's. Autozone pulls up a GP Sorenson 800-127 for $19.99.

The 4.9 regulator is more expensive at OReilly's and eBay (about $70). At Advance Auto it's only $33.59 and in stock at most stores. Add in code VISA for $10 off and you're out for 1/3 the price.
