Default Fuel filter

An anyone describe the symptoms of a clogged fuel filter? I'm having issues that are hard to describe. I'm hoping it's just the fuel filter I can afford a new fuel pump.

Thank you!

can you verify the fuel pump is making noise/working?

do you have fuel pressure on the fuel rail?

how many miles has it been since fuel filter replacement?

Yes the fuel pump is working the truck is drive-able ish.. I am not sure how many miles since the last filter change I have only owned the truck for a month. I will check the fuel pressure on the rail tomorrow at school I do not have the proper tools at home.

So this is the best I can do for a description of what's going on.

It is a very rough idle if it idles at all. Once the truck warms up it is fine with the accessional miss at idle and a slight hesitation and chug while driving/accelerating.

It's cheap and takes like 30 seconds to replace so why not just do it if questioning it?

The filter itself is cheap I k ow but the tool to pop off the fuel lines is not and also I'm trying to figure out if there may be something different as to why I'm having issues my diagnosing with gas engines is limited I'm a diesel tech drove diesels this is my first gasser.

no tool needed other than a flat head screwdriver. Simply put in the little snap clips and pop them up, pull line out and voila. Just make sure your face isnt near the lines and you take your gas cap off to relieve any pressure.

Only vehicles I know of that require the special filter tool is 04+ vehicles.

I think you are supposed to release the pressure via the schrader valve on the rail or start the engine and pull the fuel pump fuse or connector and let the engine run until it dies. Not sure pulling the gas cap(s) will do much but there may be some pressure in the tanks as well. Most of the pressure is between rail and pump. (2 pumps if you have '85-'89 EFI).
