I was flipping through a parts catalog and saw that they sold side patch panels for the bed and noticed that the fuel filler for my '88 is on the opposite side. The panel theyre selling its behind the well, but on my truck it's in front of the wheel. Why would my fuel filler be in front like the previous gen when apparently it's supposed to be behind the wheel?
My truck

From the '88 owner's manual:
On long bed trucks, the front tank is standard, and the rear tank is optional.
On short bed trucks, the rear tank is standard and the front tank is optional.

Where is the upper crease in OPs picture or is it just a patch panel from below the upper crease line? The pic I posted is taller and has the upper crease but OPs picture doesn't and the space above the wheel arch is very small compared to the bedside of his blue truck.

Bingo that's it. Idk why but it was hard to find a long bed with only a single tank everything I was finding had dual. Also I should get myself an owners manual that would be nice to have.

Good eye
The bottom of the panel doesn't match either
