Default front end question

well, my front diff gasket has cracked up i guess, and all of my front fluids have leaked out. cant put it in 4 wheel anymore because i dont want to wreck anything. i was just wondering how easy of a job it was to replace the gasket?

is it as simple as unbolting the diff sliding it back some (maybe taking off the drive shaft) and putting a new gasket it? or is it more complicated then that where i will have to remove front driveshafts and all that other good stuff?

Should be able to remove the front cover...clean both mating surface's and use RTV to make your gasket..bolt it back up....re-fill with proper lube. You may have to remove the skid plate if you have one.

On our ttb its a pain to do, atleast thats what 4 wheel parts said when changing my diff fluids after break in period. Its not as simple as taking the cover off im pretty sure you have to disassemble your front end pretty much. Others should know for sure though.

Yeah it looks like a pain....and the cover happens to be the whole arm, not just a little plate that unbolts. I'll probablly end up getting a shop to do it if they charge a fair labour price. Either that or wait it out until I get a straight axle

From what I understand going straight axle is more of a pita that it's worth. Have to fab up all the mounts to bolt on leaf springs.

yes it is going to be a pain, but it is worth it. stronger, easier to work on, and less crap to break on em. great for offroading aswell which is a big one for me.
