put my f150 i 4x4x today to pull out a small shrub ...its making a grinding and whining noise.... it has warn manual lockouts .... it does it with the 4wheel drive stick engaged or not....took it out and drove a few feet and could hear it.. unlocked hubs and it went away.....you think bad hubs? thanks for the help..............oh and i did drive in 4 wheel drive just fine but noisy whining

 

Might be dry ujoints.

 

Leave the hubs unlocked but put the transfer case in 4x4. It will turn everything but won't put power to the hubs...see if it still makes noise.
