Default Friggin obd2 troubles

Ok guys I sold my centurion, and I bought a 96 bronco xl. Halfway home from purchasing it, the cel comes on. I went to advanced auto to read the codes and the scanner said that it couldn't connect to the truck. I went to oriellys and same thing. I've tried to do the "dashboard" code reader trick too but I've never got that to work on all four of my obs fords...I'm thinking it's the connections somewhere but where do I start looking?

check the lighter fuse, the fuse runs the OBDII connector.

Its Not shifting through gears weird, but when I put it in reverse or drive I feel a slight clunk. And when I come to a complete stop , then give it gas to go again, I feel a very slight clunk. I think it's the torque converter or rear end. The u joints are good.

I'll be bringing it into the shop tonight and doing a good diagnosis. I'll be putting a zf6 in soon anyways. I'm just rebuilding a 12v for it right now.

Changed the fuse and reset the truck. No more cel but still have the clunk. I'll go to advanced again tommorow and see what I dig up. Also found out today that the po disconnected the high side line from my compressor to the condenser. So now I get to buy a new drier and compressor...
