This is true for mostly for the 1987-1991 F150's F250's, and in some cases the full size Bronco's as well. It's inside the Light switch (the on and off **** you pull) It tends to cross connect where the plug in for the switch meets the switch itself. This is no big deal. it will start with a bit of white smoke, (the plastic of the plug-in burning. and then your headlights will flicker on and off, then just stop working.(in most cases) In some others the switch continues to burn and can cause a Fire to start. NOTE: You will see smoke long before there is true fire.
Easy Fix. Go to your local Ford Dealer Buy the Plug-in that plugs into your light switch. and replace it. I think it took me all of 10min to switch out the plug-in and haven't had a problem sense.

Have a good one.

I heard of a recall on the ignition switch for some models.

There was also a recall for the 90's F150's with cruise control. There is a deactivation switch on the master cylinder that shorts out and can catch on fire.

Yes, I saw a show on TV about this. Peoples houses burned down and such because of this. Scary stuff.
