Default Fast charging newer phones on the factory power point location

Howdy all - anyone in here successfully use the factory power point in an aeronose to fast charge a newer phone like a samsung galaxy s9? If so please provide what charger/cable combo you used.

Thanks in advance!

The power point can supply 10A @ 14.4VDC, which is 144W. A typical USB adapter puts out 2.1A @ 5VDC, which is 10.5W. Even if the adapter has 2 or 10 sockets, it's far less than the power point's limit. Any cable that says it can charge your phone will work. I buy mine at WalMart, Amazon, eBay... I prefer the ones with 3 connector shapes so anyone can charge anything.

But if your phone can charge wirelessly (like my S8), I prefer the iOttie Qi:

I'm about to put that in my '93 Bronco.

Thanks Steve.

How easy is it to rebuild one of those power points? Mine is completely missing the metal sleeve. When you lift the flap it is just open space behind the dash. I have a buddy with a few spare dashes for parts so I am hoping I can just repair it.

Also where would the wiring for the power point be located within the dash harness? If you recall from previous threads I recently swapped my entire dash over to a 95 keyless/anti-theft wiring harness, and while quickly looking at my old 94 harness on the bench I couldn't find any wiring connections for the power point. Looking under my dash at the current harness, it looks like the wiring should be coming from the branch that feeds the stereo and/or keyless module wiring - but I can't see it easily if it's there. Any help appreciated.

The only fast charger I've found to work correctly is the one Samsung sells. Plugs into the power port.

The power point is just a light-duty cigar-shaped socket installed on a dash-colored pocket with a black cover. You can get all its parts from any '92-96 ('97 heavy) truck, except the pocket has to be your dash color (or you have to paint it). The wiring is a branch from the ash tray harness.

Ash tray wiring harness gave me the clue I needed - didn't realize that was a separate harness from the dash so it never got replaced when I did the dash harness swap, which explains why I don't see it in my old 94 harness either. I tracked the wiring and I have all the connectors. Now I just need to see if I can salvage a socket off of another dash or if I have to find a maroon dash with one intact.

Well if I knew it was that easy to replace the metal sleeve, I would have done it a long time ago. Front piece just threads onto the back piece to tighten it down to the plastic. Plugged it into the factory plug, borrowed a friend's charger and plugged it in - fast charging on my galaxy s9 is enabled - thanks all for the help.
