Default exhaust

Ya i was wondering if this is a good idea. i want to have more lower and higher end power. First i have a 1992 ford f150 with the 4.9 300 with the 4x4 and auto trans. i want to take off the old exhast from the cat back to and put on a cherry bomb right after the cat then go a foot back then turn it down so the exhast ain' shooting straight back at the back axle. Will it have a good sound? will i loss power? will i burn out o2 sensors?

Not a big fan of Cherry Bombs. Many varied opinions here, but I think that a loud muffler on a 4.9L I6 sounds like a mad John Deere. Perhaps other members have better options. Typically, the longer the muffler, the deeper the sound.

Losing power, no. Burn out O2 sensors, no.

Not a big expert here, but wouldn't think you'd lose noticeable mileage, if any at all. Actually, would expect to gain a nudge in fuel economy. Keep in mind that the 4.9L was noted for many great things, but fuel economy was not one of them.

The larger diameter pipe will also help deepen the sound, I was thinking more of the length of the muffler itself - a 22" should sound deeper than an 18", etc. Remember how deep the long 70s era van sideframe mufflers sounded?

Exitting under the truck instead of out the side will help deepen the rumble too. Don't know that the pipe length past the muffler plays a large part.

Hmm, guess I'm showing my age with respect to the older vans.

Whatever you do is up to your personal preferences as well as the local vehicle inspection laws and and noise-ordinance enforcement. Some areas are sticklers, others not so much.

I'm not against changing mufflers, just haven't heard a sound that I like out of an inline six. Hopefully other members will chime in here shortly with their experiences. Exhaust technology has come a long way since I last actively fooled around with it.
