hollow out the rear cat and run straight pipe with a tail and NO muffler....you dont need one....

thats what I am running and its peppy and throaty and not loud at all...

or if you are running no cats and duals right off the manifold you're pretty much stuck...i'd probably have run a x-over pipe with 2-into-1 and ran a 2.5 single pipe and a 2-chamber flowmaster...you'd get more low-end torque than by running duals on the 300-6

There is not much you can do to an in line 6 short of a split manifold or headers and regardles of what you do its not going to have that v8 rumble that you want. and before you start messing the cats be very carefull. 1st it is against federal and most state laws to remove or alter cats.2nd. if your state has emision inspection or test you will probably fail. 3rd you could mess up the O2 senser signal to the ecm and cause a MIL light and and fault codes. 4th if you ever sell or trade your truck you could be liable to the new owner for the cost to repair. all being said the sound you will get out of an I6 is just not worth the expense and hassel. I know there are many who will disagree with me but take it for what its worth after several decades of getting it wrong the first time we do learn a few things. Now if I could figure out this stupid computer. Bubbabud

the Fuel Injected 300-6 is a split exhaust manifold that the 1st cat combines the 2-into-1....

the O2 sensor is in the x-over pipe pre-1st cat

no real reason to have 2 cats in 1 pipe other that being totally restrictive. Mostly there due to the fact it was designed that way in the beginning due to poor combustion. With the later Fast Burn head it isnt an issue expecially with a High Output coil...

I have an MSD coil and Spark Box and a lower T-Stat and the exhaust I mentioned plus timing set at 14° and mine is cleaner than specs require....

mmmm I wonder how that happened???

had a 86 with a I6 in it. cut the cats and put a single straight pipe that ended at the back of the cab. she had a pretty decent rumble then. but where i'm from you can legally cut the cats off. and if you do mess up the oxygen sensor it doesn't affect anything your check engine light will just come on whenever your exhaust gets warmed up no big deal.
