Default Engine Upgrade

Hi everyone. Just got off one of the other threads where a guy put a Boss 302 in his truck...looked real nice and got me to thinking about an upgrade. As much as I like my straight 6, I sometimes want more engine and all of the benefits that go with it. Not that I'm looking to beat any land speed records but some more oomph would be cool. Just how much engine would go under the hood with the same motor mounts? My truck is a 93 and I'm guessing that I'd need to re-do the fuel system/delivery as well as the computer and exhaust. Any ideas are welcomed.

boss 302 in a truck = dog. Should be in a classic mustang.

You can go as big as a 460 block. How much money you got, and how much time on your hands?

Sell it & use the money to but a V-8...Unless you're more into doing it as a project, that just getting in & driving.

You can always get a 660 stroker that is based off a 460 block Broncograveyard has mount kits for the 460 to fit.

So you guys are saying rather than build up a 302 we should put a 660 motor in the truck instead? I was hoping to get better fuel mileage than with a motor that big. Am I thinking wrong?

I would build a 351 over a 302 if you're going small block and my truck currently has a 302.... Also I would only do factory stuff for reliablity concerns on my part and ease of conversion with a complete donor truck...

Any engine in an F-series truck of same vintage as your current truck will be able to fit no problem. 300(4.9L), 302(5.0L), 351(5.8L), 460(7.5L), 7.3L Diesel(various types throughout the generation)

As stated before, what you can fit in these trucks depends on your budget, timeline, and fabrication skills. 460 is the biggest factory gasoline Ford engine that can fit with readily available kits. Could always go diesel or that 660 mentioned if money is no object....

About the same as you got right now. The 302/351 use different mounts. I've done the 300 to 302 swap before, not worth it unless you just have to have that v8 sound. I only done it because that is what I had laying around when piston number 5 decided it wanted to meet piston 6 through the cylinder walls of my 300.

I agree. Will definitely be easier, want a v8? Buy a v8 equipped vehicle, I personally would take the 300 over my current truck's 302.

I was just saying that as a half joke. If you're building up a SBF you aren't going to get the best mileage no matter which engine you use. Mod motors get better mileage even with higher HP. My buddy had a 585 RWHP Cobra that got 20 MPG when he wasn't getting on it but only got around 12 on Saturday nights.

Im a die hard 351 fan. One of, if not the most, reliable v8 in fords.

Id go with the 351. More power with just a few more modifications to make it fit.
