I have 5.0 V8 mated with a 5-speed tranny. I wanna do something with more power and probably a new tranny.

well there are alot more aftermarket parts for the 5.0, id start with making it breath better, intake and exhaust.

I would like to work on this engine, but there is a lot that needs to be done to it to get it to the point where I would feel confident building it. I would prefer to build an engine from scratch. I was thinking the 5.8 and starting from the block up.

Ive never owned a 5.0 but I do have a 5.8. Its stock, I'm sure there is potential to make a lot of power. Its a good engine, has never let me down and has 180K miles on it. Its thirsty tho.

Ive been told that I can make pretty good power with my 5.0, but the problem is, I dont know what kind of condition its in. It runs fairly smooth, but there is a serious lack of power, and a few leaks. I dont think it was maintained very well. The first oil change I gave it, the oil was almost sludge. I dont know how well it was taken care of. I'd rather start from scratch and know what is going in there, ya know. Once I begin building this truck, it will be a mudder, so Im not too worried about gas mileage. Any tips on how to get the most out of a 5.8?

Heads and an intake
Give it some aluminum head and a bigger ported intake it'll breathe better and make a good bit more power especially with a good matching cam and roller rockers
