Well I only drove it about 5 miles. Let it sit and idle for about 10 before taking off. Quiet as could be when I got home..cooled down..started back up and still has the slight knock...ugh!! I couldnt find the small Lucas bottles you mentioned..can't think there is much difference. Sure seemed like a nice filter. Heavier, felt really solid..that alone doesn't mean anything and I know nothing about that particular filter but it seemed a step up. lol.. Came in a very nice box as well! lol have used Wix for years, always thought they were one of the best. Anyway, I guess I will drive it tomorrow and see 35 miles one way to and back from work should work it up good.

Drove it to work today..about 35 miles at highway speed for the most part...went out over lunch...nothing has changed, but after a short time she runs quiet as could be under the hood. Darn it. Knew it sounded too good to actually work... Crap.

dont worry it's common so unless it starts rapidly getting worse which i bet it wont it will be fine....

at this point adding an accumulator would fix the dry start issue but thats added cost

At 260k there is bound to be some bearing wear when you do your next oil change take a sample for oil analasis that will tell you how far into the bearings you are [the bearings have layers of different metals ] and if the knock is main bearing noise you have 2 options 1 drive it 2 roll in a set of new bearings this can be done without removeing the engine. but as long as you are maintaining oil pressure a main knock is not that much of a problem.

Thumbs up

Went out this morning, started up my truck, still has the knocking sound although after driving about 100 miles yesterday, it seems to sound a little "softer" for lack of a better word. So maybe given a little time it will quiet down. Will keep my fingers crossed. For my next oil change.. what lucas additive is it that you find in the little bottles? I cant seem to find it anywhere. Online I did find this stuff called ZDDPlus... is that any good? May have to order something online. Would rather use a small concentrated bottle and add to all my regular oil than substitute a quart, when I dont know for sure what is in that whole quart. I assume it has a lot of oil mixed with a little additive. But what oil? Base stock, weight, etc... I dunno, maybe I am going overboard with all this and obsessing about it, but would really like to get rid of the knock upon startup. How do you install the check valve that you mentioned earlier? I dont mind spending a little cash if it will get rid of the knock and make my engine last longer, truck happier.

With about 200 miles since adding the zddp and different filter, nothing has changed. How will it run good this way? I know to remove the pan you must lift the front of the engine...anyone have a step by step on doing this? May be a winter project if it is ok to keep driving that long.
