Default elm327 connector

The obd2 connector matches up with the elm327 unit but when i try to connect it to the vehicle it doesn't recognize it. I've deleted and updated the drivers and the license for forscan. Any further ideas? Will it just not recognize it because of the model?

This explains how to collect all the truck's details & put them into your signature so we know what you're talking about:

wired or wireless scanner? The Elm327 is a knock-off scan tool and the bluetooth ones work best with Android software like Torque. With Torque you can access the PIDs

Mine is a USB connection, sold on Amazon for about $35. It works well on my 2018 but, not the 96

'96 was the first year of OBD-II on F-series, and it's not same system as all later OBD-II systems. Don't expect any scanner to work reliably on it.
