so after some personal delays ive finally got a pressure gauge that works hooked up...

koeo it slowly manages to start at around 10 psi

after starting it climbs to 30 and holds there

i cant figure out how to safely measure fuel pressure when im going down the road and it shuts down

ive replaced the regulator, relay, filter and both fuel pumps

Specs for your 96 should be 30-45 psi at idle. You have something to investigate.Pull the vacuum line off the regulator, if no fuel is present it is good. It will not knock down your pressure unless it is ruptured and sending fuel into your intake..If you get it started, pull the vacuum of the FPR, goose the engine a couple times, if the pressure takes a big drop, your fuel pump is very weak.

several faulty fuel pressure gauges later...it’s not fuel related.

It finally faulted on me for good where I could test the ignition system. After following the steps from both Steve and my haynes manual, the problem appears to be between the Ignition Control Module (remote mounted) and the coil. My coil TACH negative terminal doesn’t flash a test light and shows open to ground. About 3 ohms between coil Tach negative and ICM.

I don’t understand how I can repair the wire harness. Has anyone done this? The wire from the coil to the ICM appears to not branch at all on the diagram in my book.

TIA

Follow the procedure in the caption from my first post, and follow the relevant links in it. Everything is explained. If you have trouble with a step, tell us which step, exactly what readings you got, pics of what you're seeing, and what the problem is.

Default Solved

I went through the wiring harness when it finally quit altogether and didn’t find any faults

Swapped out the distributor and ive had two weeks with no trouble.

Thanks Bldtruth and thanks Steve!
