Default Egr quesion!!!!!!!!!

on my 91 f150,5.8 i pulled codes and one of them was an egr code.my question is before i buy a new one would it be worth a try to run some sea foam tru the vacum line and would it even have any effect on the egr valve.also just how much havoc can a bad egr valve wreak on your motor.thanks guys.

Woa there nelly! EGR isn't a cheap part. Start by telling what the exact code is. Mine was just throwing two different EGR codes and it wasn't the EGR at all. Mine were codes 327 and 332, which are a voltage code for the position sensor, and the latter is "insufficient EGR flow". It wasn't the EGR at all, it was the position sensor. Knowing the exact code yours threw would help though.

I'd have to say the EGR is stuck open.
