Default EGR Needed or Not?

92
150k miles

After a check engine light the other day I scanned
the codes and got codes 327 and 332, both relating to EGR not working properly. I am wondering would it be bad to disconnect the EGR all together? I would probably just disconnect power to it and leave all vacuum hoses alone. What would be any advantage/disadvantages of this?

Probably light your check engine light. EGR is a pretty simple system. There's a pipe with a valve, a vacuum line and an electric vacuum valve (by the coil) that the computer operates. Just take a look at those things for a problem.
It's probably a faulty valve, leaking vacuum line, or the EGR valve is clogged or rusted in the open or closed position.
Closed would just make it inoperative, but if it's stuck open or partly open, it'll give you problems.
The only other thing that really goes wrong is the crossover in your intake getting clogged.

Right now as it is the check engine light is off for the most part and come on every once in a while but goes back out rather quickly. On these engines I thought I read the EGR Valve is controlled by an electronic vacuum regulator?

Advantages- intake manifolds stay much cleaner, less parts to cause problems, I would imagine the upper intake stays cooler
Disadvantages- I can't think of one.

I have done an egr delete on my truck with no negative effects.

What does the EGR delete kit include? How is it different from me unplugging the two wires that govto the vacuum regulator? Any difference in fuel economy? Thanks for the help.

I did the delete without a kit. What I did was cut the egr tube in order to slide the fittings off each end. Then I put a penny underneath and screwed the fittings back on. I did this at the egr valve and on the lower intake (removal of the upper intake is necessary to delete the egr this way) here's a pic of my lower intake. Its a lil hard to see but on the left the fitting is screwed into the manifold with the penny underneath

Kind of redneck engineered I know, but it works great. Only cost me 2 cents lol. I also made a block off plate for the egr valve out of thin sheet metal but left the valve in place as well as the vacuum line and electrical connector. I have no CEL

As for fuel economy, I did the delete when I installed the new engine so I have no idea on that
