Default E4OD Shifting Problems

So a few months ago I had a no start issue on my 95 f150 5.8l auto. I messed around with a few parts till I found the PCM was the culprit for the no start. I got a used PCM off of ebay and when I installed it the truck would start but shift very harshly. Thinking this had something to do with the PCM I got from ebay I recently ordered a freshly rebuilt PCM from a company only to find the harsh shifting was still there.
Before I found the original PCM was bad I replaced the TPS and now I have a code saying the voltage is incorrect, 126 I think. I'm also getting a 565 code, I think. It was calling out the MAP sensor if I remember correctly. Could either of these, most likely the TPS, be leading to the rough shifting?
I haven't had much time to work on the truck lately as I'm in college right now, I have a wedding in two months to be ready for, and I have been helping my grandparents get moved out of their home and into an assisted living facility. Needless to say the truck hasn't been priority. I will have time this weekend though so I plan on getting a few hours wrench time to hopefully figure this out.

Verify the voltage of the TPS, .9-.97v closed, 5v WOT, smooth increase as you open it. Also if you didn't get a motorcraft TPS then another one will probably be in your future, the other brands just don't have the quality the OEM does and they tend to cause problems.

Fix the codes first, it may be causing the problem but it also may be something completely different, you won't know for sure until you get there.

I assume you have verified fluid level and that it doesn't smell/look burnt

Definitely check the tps because thats sounding like its a problem. I just had the same shifting problem.

Yes I did check the tranny fluid and it looks good. Just to be on the safe side I did buy more fluid, a filter, and a gasket but haven't had the time or weather to get it done. Hopefully this weekend.

I am working through the same gremlins. Unfortunately the e40d was fords first electronic transmission and pretty much any fault anywhere in the system either mechanical or electrical causes hard shifting because the trans will up the pressure, or the valves will stick.

On my 94 I I replaced all the ground straps, the tps, the mds? (sensor near linkage) and the sensor in the solonoid pack area, fresh battery and cleaned all contacts, and a fluid flush/filter change.

In my case the hard shifting is only after extended drives on warm days. I finally broke down and bought a shift kit that replaced the bits in the valve body. Removed the acuumulator, solenoid pack, shift plate and replaced all the gaskets.
FWIW the replacement valves are hardened steel which are supposed to fix the "sticking/rough shifting" of the factory aluminum coated bits.

I highly recommend a shift kit.

Finally I am adding a trans cooler and new exhaust. I suspect my problems are due to the exhaust/cat almost toughing the trans right at the sensor for the coil packs, its got to be cooking that fluid there (no gauge).

In summary after you've ruled out the electrical bits check the running temp and install a shift kit. I am no transmission expert and I despise automatics but its a job you can do with a couple of wrenches and a few hours.

So my TPS voltage was 0.87vdc and I readjusted it to just over 0.90vdc. Also it was calling out the MAP sensor so I replaced it. Now I'm getting a 111 code, no check engine light, and the transmission is shifting silky smooth. Still kind of surprised that's what was causing the transmission to act up but I'm glad it's fixed.
