Default E4OD internals

Does anybody know if the internals on an e4od interchange between gas and diesel. I know bellhousing is different but I'm wanting to rebuild my transmission and make it bullet proof so I figured I'd get the upgraded parts from ATS diesel but don't know if they'll work or not.

I am 99% sure they will. I think the only difference between gas and deisel internals are the clutch drums. I believe the 300 and 302 get 3 clutch packs, the 351 and 460 get 4 clutch drums and 7.5 get 5. Also make sure you update everything to 96 and 97 spec. Best pumps, 4 pinion planetary, best valve body check ball set up, ect. They are the best of them all so keep that in mind. So all that done right will yield you a solid transmission.

I once saw a video on YouTube of someone building an e4od and I seem to remember them using the 5 clutch drum. I also talked to a guy who came into the shop I work at that claimed to do it. So that's why I say 99% sure yes because I myself have not done it.

Thank you for the reply. I just want my transmission to be the best it can due to the fact that I use the truck for hauling loads way oversized for the truck and use it for commercial snow plowing.

Make sure you have a good cooler then. I'd recommend installing a trans temp gauge too. But I'm sure it will hold fine being that mine is factory still with 217,000 miles. And it's seen up to 11,000 lbs on the interstate for a good while. It consistently sees 4-6000 lbs. I keep trans fluid changed, it had always been changed and I change it before it turns dark. It comes out the same color it goes in.

I completely agree with you on the cooler and gauge. I have a pretty bad*** cooler set up and a gauge( I never go over 180° And driving unloaded it runs around 140°.

Well good deal man. That's what mine runs in the summer time unloaded, if it's 100+ outside and I'm on a long trip for several hours, at interstate speeds I see 160. Highway speeds I see 140. Pulling when I get to the mountains with a 24fy enclosed trailer I've seen up to about 210 after several miles ( 80 or so before it gets a real break, then it starts again Shortly) but normal hauling in the hot summer days I see 180 to 190. Winter time unloaded I struggle to hit 110. I have a factory external cooler. Where do you have your temp probe mounted just out of curiosity? Mine is in the test port.

Its in the cooler line bythe trans leading to the cooler. Where is the test port and is that a more accurate reading.

No I'd say I would like yours more. But it's on the driver side of the trans kinda in the middle. I don't 100% remember.

The planetary assemblies are different too. It's not really a gas vs diesel issue, per se, but more so an early model vs late model issue, with late model 5.8L, 7.5L and diesel engines having the best of the best.
